PIONEER is a compact smart perfect binder designed for the production of softcover books, thread-sewn perfect-bound books, photo books, and book blocks for hardcover production. It features an automatic operating cycle and computer-controlled format changeover, allowing adjustments to be completed within seconds. Easy to operate, it is well suited for flexible production of multiple products in small batches.

Key Features

1. Hardcover Book Block Preparation (Endsheets & Gauze)

PIONEER automatically applies and attaches the front and rear endsheets, and works together with gauze to complete the pressing and forming of hardcover book blocks.

After the endsheets and book block are pre-collected, the front and rear endsheets are automatically lifted before the clamp starts. The side-glue spray nozzles apply glue in multiple lines, allowing the outer sides of the book block and endsheets to receive glue simultaneously.

After the book block is transported to the clamping station, the front and rear endsheets automatically move down to align with the spine of the book block. Together with the pre-positioned gauze, they are pressed against the spine and sides of the book block to complete the hardcover book block preparation process.

2. Spine Milling Unit

Suitable for pre-processing book blocks of different paper types and thicknesses.

The milling depth can be adjusted from 0 to 2 mm.

For thread-sewn books, the spine milling station can be tilted away to provide clearance.

3. Glue Application Unit

Bottom glue is applied by roller coating. The dual-roller design ensures uniform and stable glue application. The glue leveling bar is height-adjustable to achieve optimum glue application for different paper types and book block thicknesses.

Side glue is applied by spraying, with multiple height-adjustable spray nozzles to meet the gluing requirements of different products.

4. Nipping & Forming

After spine milling and roughening, the book block is transported by the clamp to the cover positioning station, where the spine and side-glue areas are pressed and formed.

The pressing dwell time can be adjusted from 0–20 seconds according to the cover type and thickness. After the cycle is completed, the clamp opens automatically, allowing the operator to remove the finished book.
